Final Steps of MySQL Migration

We will be finishing up the final steps of the migration process today by shutting down the old MySQL servers (1~4) in order to prevent sync and data fragmentation issues between the old servers and the new ones. If you have yet to update your scripts and are still referencing SQL1~SQL4 in your scripts you will receive a database connection error as the servers go offline.

If, after you have updated your scripts with the new SQL hostname which can be found on the left side of your Vista Panel, you have issues connecting to your databases, missing tables or other issues, contact support via a Support Ticket through your website control panel and we’ll work to sort you out.

We’d like to thank you all very much for your patience during this transition to the new MySQL architecture and we hope that you find the performance boost a welcome feature of your free hosting service!

MySQL Migration Continuing

The upgrade to the new MySQL architecture is continuing but as we have progressed over the past few days we have seen a number of issues crop up here and there which may or may not affect your sites directly.

One common issue would be the ability to connect to your MySQL databases while your databases are moved to the new servers, this is to be expected and shouldn’t last more than a few hours as the scripts are a bit out of sync to ensure data is migrated successfully.

If you have problems after you have been migrated such as missing data out of your databases or missing tables, or you aren’t sure which server you should now be using, or you have other problems related to this migration then by all means feel free to file a support ticket via your website control panel.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding!

MySQL Migration

We will be migrating all sites and databases on the free hosting services to a new MySQL server architecture which will involve first moving everyone into a temporary holding area in the form of SQL100. You will start to see all of your sites and scripts refer to SQL100 and you may temporarily lose the ability to create and/or delete existing databases as well as the ability to manage them via your control panel.

The new architecture is meant to improve and enhance the MySQL back-end of your sites by adding more servers, automatic transparent load-balancing and the introduction of a new feature to isolate and move high load MySQL users off of the main servers to prevent performance degradation for other users on the servers.

In the end this should result in a rather noticeable performance boost for sites which rely heavily on MySQL databases for their data and content storage.

Backup Shenanigans

Starting around 5:02PM EST if you were attempting to login to your website control panel on the free hosting services you may have found yourself met with timeout or other errors.  This issue was due to the fact that our backup job decided that it was the only process allowed to access the account database files and data which locked the login routines and scripts out of the data.

This issue lasted about two hours and has since been corrected, in the future, we will make sure our backup jobs know that they have to play nice with the other processes and that they have to share their “toys”.
