Today, when you find Byteact in a search result or browse to it on the web using browsers which rely on Google’s SafeBrowsing API you will find that there is no longer a warning message thanks to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in helping rectify the issue.

I’d like to thank everyone who assisted us in this issue including everyone from the Google SafeBrowsing team, everyone who contacted Google on our behalf, StopBadware.org’s Erica George, Kevin and Craig from Byet Internet Group and everyone else who helped us work through this issue!

Thank you all very much!

We are making progress on the Google warning issue and are working to resolve the issue on many fronts including…

  • Implementing new signup security features
  • Developing a proactive back-end security engine which will scan existing accounts for violations
  • Developing an easy to use abuse reporting system
  • Stepped up manual review of accounts

This will of course be an on-going security project which will be extended to include all of our hosting services, not just Byteact Hosting to prevent abuse and a repeat of this issue.

We have temporarily suspended all signups for Byteact free hosting of course so that we may focus on our existing users and eliminating all accounts which violate our terms of service.

We would like to take time to thank Erica George of StopBadware.org for her assistance in this issue as well as our friends Kevin and Craig of Byet Internet Group for their assistance and technical support.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding at this time!

Regards,
Andrew

Well, it seems we have a bit of a problem today… Google is reporting our site as a source for malware and more net troubles.

We admit we have an issue with users uploading phishing sites, spam sites and other net maladies but we’re not alone in this issue, other popular hosts including:

… We all have issues with spam, malware, phishing and just generally bad stuff that comes with providing free web hosting and even paid web hosting services but we’re all doing our best trying to eliminate it.

We have contacted StopBadware.org and Google asking for a review and reconsideration after spending hours manually reviewing hundreds of free hosting accounts and closing down anything we considered spam, porn, malware or otherwise violated our terms of service but this won’t work without your help!

Simply contact Google and let them know that we simply provide a service for users and it is ultimately the responsibility of the user as to what content is published on their sites: Report Google SafeBrowsing Error

Thank you all for your help!

In 1998, Google’s search index included 26 million webpages and in 2000, they hit the 1 billion mark for the number of websites known to Google in the search index.

Yesterday, Google engineers stopped and stared in awe as their index reached and flew past the 1 TRILLION mark for the number of websites and pages in its index.

Just to put that in perspective, it is estimated that there are just over 6.680 billion people on Earth which comes out to about 150 pages per person on the planet.

Interesting, isn’t it?
